South Yorkshire Police has launched a new website allowing members of the public to be kept up date (free of charge) with crime within their chosen areas. You can register three postcodes - perhaps your home, place of work and the postcode of an elderly or vulnerable family member or friend. The police will text you with information on crimes in these areas, for example when there is an increase in burglary or car crime. They will also send advice and guidance on how to avoid becoming a victim of crime and other similar bits of information. Anyone who is interesting in knowing more, should log on to www.police.uk and click on the link for ‘police message broadcast’. For the text message service, text ‘police’ followed by a space with your postcode to 88588.
